Ahead of our AGM this Wednesday, 25th, we spoke with our chairperson, Hughina, about her experience on the Moving On board.
We are always looking for new board members. If you are interested, please get in touch or attend our AGM.
After I retired from my employment, the Project Manager of MOEP encouraged me to join the Board. I had always held a lifelong interest in children and families and remained interested in helping young people to make a meaningful difference to their lives.
MOEP provides a service to assist people overcome challenges to achieve their individual employment-related goals. I would say it did not take too much encouragement as the Project was closely linked to my lifelong interest.
Being on the Board has been rewarding for me. When we receive the statistical information and realise that the Project has been successful in helping many young people into work it is very satisfying. Everyone deserves a work opportunity and the benefits that come from being included and involved in the employment market. The statistics evidence the need for the service.
My contribution to the Board has been mainly related to staffing and the running of the Project. I have been involved in almost all the selection and recruitment of staff as well as providing staff supervision. With my Social Work background this was an area of work well known to me.
Over and above the rewarding ethos of MOEP, being on the board has also been enjoyable. I have been invigorated over the years by training and planning days with all the board members and the staff team. Everyone on the board brings their own skill set and when pooled together the Project benefits from the knowledge and expertise shared.
A really worthwhile Project and one that I am pleased to be involved with.
