I became a member of the MOEP board on my retirement from full-time employment. Having had a life long interest in young people I believed in the ethos of the Project. Young people deserve the benefits that come from being employed and be equal participants in our community. Some young people do need support to overcome individual barriers that can make employment more tricky for them. MOEP provides person-centred support and training tailored to achieve their goals.
I joined the Moving on Project Board because I believe the work they do with young people in Shetland is really important. I have been involved in youth work for over 30 years and fundamentally believe that by giving young people the right support, training, and opportunities in life they can achieve their goals and feel valued in their community.
I became involved with the Moving On Employment Project after I retired from social work. Although I worked with people of all ages, I particularly enjoyed supporting teenagers and young people to explore making changes in their lives and to develop their skills and abilities. MOEP has given me the chance to continue being involved in supporting and assisting young people to achieve their full potential.
