The Value of our Trustees – AGM 2025

“As Manager of Moving On, I am reliant on the skills, knowledge and dedication of the Board members of the Charity. As Trustees, their role is to oversee the effective running of the organisation, offer support and guidance to me and the team, and, where appropriate, be involved in the development of the service.

Members are able to engage and much or as little as they can, we generally meet 5-6 times per annum.  For some their roles extend (as with Hughina as Chair) other members limit their involvement to the Governance of the Charity and that is an important part of our processes and a key role.”

Lincoln Carroll, Project Manager

What do trustees do?

Trustees are responsible for making sure the charity:

  • Meets its objectives and works within its powers

  • Complies with charity law and other legal requirements

  • Remains financially viable and accountable to funders

  • Supports and manages staff and volunteers appropriately

  • Looks after property, resources, and health & safety

  • Develops effectively and plans for the future

  • Works in the best interests of Moving On at all times

Above all, Trustees commit to regularly attending meetings, supporting good governance, and ensuring the organisation remains strong and effective.

Being part of the Board is an opportunity to make a real difference to young people in Shetland as they transition into work, training, and education. Whether you have time for a governance role or the capacity to take on more, your contribution would be valued.

If you’d like to learn more about becoming a Trustee, please get in touch with us — we’d be delighted to hear from you.

Our AGM takes place tonight, Wednesday 24/09.
